Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar that is pivotally positioned around a point (known as a the fulcrum). When you apply force to the end of the bar, the fulcrum is likely to turn in the direction the force is applied. This motion increases the force and allows you to lift or move objects that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum to the point where you apply the force determines how far the lever is able to move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever extends, the larger the advantage in terms of mechanical. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing the distance from fulcrum point to the place where you are applying force by the distance between fulcrum point and the end of lever.
Levers can also have a variety of effects based on the way in which forces are applied. A lever in class 2, for example is prone to rotating in the opposite direction when the force applied to it. If you push the door's handle, the forces will produce rotational effects similar to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They multiply the force by making small amounts of effort applied over a lengthy distance into greater amounts of force applied over shorter distances. This is what enables you to complete more work in a shorter period of time, and it is why levers are often used to lift heavy objects or moving large quantities of cargo.
